Michele Krolczyk testimonial review - family business

How I Helped a Family Business Turn Chaos into Action

When I first met Molly and Carrie, they were looking for help on building an Org Chart to help them better define roles and responsibilities at The Berry Patch School (a community cornerstone in Edina, MN since 1983).

They wanted to understand who or what they would need to help move the family business forward.

“We purchased The Berry Patch schools right before the pandemic,” says Molly. “After successfully navigating all the challenges during that time, we realized we needed a way to move our organization forward. As new business owners, we weren’t sure exactly where to start. And then we met Michele.”

Helping a Family Business Thrive

As I learned more about their story (a sister, a brother, and their spouses buying the school to carry on the legacy of their mother who founded it), it started to remind me of the children’s book, “If You Give a Moose a Muffin.”

Yes, we could build an Org Chart, but it was probably going to need some jam to go with it. (Side note: I love it when the perfect analogy presents itself!)

We purchased The Berry Patch schools right before the pandemic. After successfully navigating all the challenges during that time, we realized we needed a way to move our organization forward. As new business owners, we weren’t sure exactly where to start. And then we met Michele. Her guidance proved to be just what we needed. Her experience and keen business eye helped turn all of the chaos we were feeling into logical, actionable steps. We had all the answers. Michele just helped us make sense of them.”

I say this with great sincerity: I could not be more proud of the four owners for deciding to step up to the plate and look at the whole picture, not just one small part of it.

They came to see the Berry Patch School as a business that needed some fine-tuning so that it could better carry out the great work it does. And so we have begun the journey of implementing the System and Soul business operating system for this family business.

“Michele’s guidance proved to be just what we needed,” says Carrie. “Her experience and keen business eye helped turn all of the chaos we were feeling into logical, actionable steps. We had all the answers. Michele just helped us make sense of them.”

How a Business Coach Can Help You See the Big Picture

One of my favorite quotes is: “You can’t see the picture from inside the frame.” My job as a coach is simple (simple, not always easy) and that is to help teams pull back the mirror so they can see things more clearly; offer guidance based on years of experience; and help them become the best leaders they can be.

“With our busy schedules, an 8-hour Day 1 Session felt daunting. But at the end of the day, we all left feeling encouraged and energized. Michele worked her magic!”

It would be super cool if it really was magic.

Our work continues, but we are off to a great start in helping build and grow this amazing community asset and carry on a family legacy. Now that does sound like magic.
